The birthstone for the month of June, Pearl, a lunar symbol representing both the moon and woman, has been a symbol of wisdom, purity and perfection for millennia. Venus, the Roman goddess of love and beauty, has long been associated with Pearls, often portrayed in artwork being born from the sea emerging from an oyster shell.
The Roman invasion of the British Isles in 55 BC led by Julius Caesar was partly motivated by his obsession with Britain’s freshwater pearls, found in Scottish and Welsh riverbeds they were considered the best in the world and highly prized.

The Latin word for pearl, “unique,” aptly describes the fact that no two pearls are identical.

Freshwater Pearls are cultivated within a mussel shell called Hyriopsis Schlegeli.

A Pearl forms when a nucleus, a small piece of the mussel’s tissue known as “mantle material,” is implanted.  The mollusc remains unharmed during this process and secretes the pearl with nacre (pearl lustre) over a period of 7-8 years.  One shell can produce up to 20 pearls.

While white is the most renowned pearl colour, they naturally occur in nearly every shade imaginable.  These colours range from white to golden, chocolate, pink, lavender and blue.

Black freshwater pearls are not naturally occurring, a pearl is treated with silver nitrate to transform white and pink pearls into a deep black. This stain is absorbed by the porous layers of the pearl. The only natural black Pearls come from the salt water oyster and are grown in Tahitian waters.

What is GOLD FILLED?

Gold-filled is composed of a solid sheet of 14k gold bonded with heat and pressure to a sheet of bronze.

Why is it called Gold Filled? Is it “filled with gold”?

Actually, all the gold is on the outside, the industry decided on “gold-filled” to identify this kind of jewellery —it’s confusing, since it really has nothing to do with being filled with gold.

Most importantly the term gold filled refers to a thick outer layer of durable, pressure-bonded, real, solid gold…on the outside.  No filling.

IS GOLD-FILLED jewellery real gold?

The gold in 14k gold-filled is definitely real. There’s a thick layer of real, solid 14k gold on the outside of a bronze core.  The 14k gold that’s on the outside of gold-filled is the same gold as you would get from a solid 14k piece.

When compared to gold plated Jewellery, Gold-Filled is a far superior product.

Gold filled is NOT “GoldPlated”.

MED FINISHED BRACELET = 17.5 cm - Internal circumference finished bracelet fits WRIST SIZE between 16 to 16.5cm.

Measure Your Wrist Accurately

Measuring your wrist is the first and most critical step in finding the perfect bracelet size. It’s crucial to measure accurately to ensure your bracelet fits comfortably.

  • To measure your wrist, you'll need a flexible measuring tape or a piece of string and a ruler.

  • Wrap the measuring tape or string around your wrist, just above the wrist bone. If you're using a string, mark the point where it overlaps.

  • Lay the measuring tape or string flat and use the ruler to measure the length in centimetres.

Measure your wrist size

Step 1: Wrap the tape measure just above the wrist bone so that it fits snugly without feeling too tight or too loose.

Step 2: Mark where the tape measure overlaps. This is the exact circumference of your wrist.

Note: You can substitute the measuring tape with a string or ribbon and use a straight ruler to measure the length from the point of overlap to the end.

If it is not done properly, then the size will be inaccurate and I will make a bangle based on the loose size, which always has led to returns being too big.

Just to let you know, most people make the tape loose because they worry that I will make a “tight bangle”. This is not the case.
